About The Artwork

The artwork presents a stark juxtaposition of deep, biomorphic forms against a lighter, geometric backdrop that mimics aged parchment. Fine lines and dots overlay the grid, reminiscent of precise mathematical or architectural plans. As the grid warps around the shadowy figures, a sense of depth emerges, hinting at the three-dimensional reality of these structures. This interplay suggests a realm beyond our usual perception, akin to a microscopic or cosmic vista filled with enigmatic symbols. Such meticulous attention to shading and texture within the monochromatic etching medium beckons viewers to engage with the piece at a contemplative level. The natural world's complexity, as seen in cellular structures or the organic flow of life, intersects here with human artistry and scientific inquiry. Echoes of Henry Moore's biomorphic sculptures are evident, where the abstract meets the living form, fueling the imagination and urging a deeper inquiry into the work's essence. Viewers are intended to be ushered into a state of wonder, to traverse the bridge between the tangible and the conceptual, and to extract personal significance from the indistinct forms. By employing a monochromatic palette, the artist shifts the focus to the interplay of light and shadow, accentuating the tactile quality and dimensionality without the interference of color. The choice of subject matter and style is a deliberate foray into the paradox of complexity within simplicity. Abstract shapes serve as stand-ins for intricate natural or theoretical constructs. In summary, the piece is a testament to the profound connection between the organic and the abstract, challenging the observer to explore the layers of meaning and the inherent relationships that bind the macroscopic and microscopic worlds. It’s an artistic exploration that marries the complexities of nature with the human desire to find order in chaos, encapsulating a universal experience that crosses conventional boundaries.

I explore the aesthetic of things through absurd, irony, abstract, and misplaced situations. In my early thirties, I joined the largest artistic avant-garde movement in the long history of the former Soviet Union. In St. Petersburg the group of artists founded the Society of Experimental Fine Arts and gave regular art exhibitions of a "new" art five years prior to the rise of Perestroika in the Soviet Union. Throughout the 1980's, my paintings were regularly shown at art exhibits. My artistic practice explores the conceptual aesthetic of things through absurd, irony and misplaced situations. It includes photo, painting, graphics, and sculpture. Since 2000s I have also been working in digital art and digital photography. Starting with raster images in Adobe Photoshop, vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator, and 3D objects in Maya/ 3ds Max, today I additionally use various text-to-image AI-driven art services like GAN & DALL·E 2 OpenAI for creating art works. My works are in Russian Museum (Saint-Petersburg, Russia), Museum of Nonconformist Art (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) and private collections in Russia, Spain, USA, Israel, France. From March 2022 I’m based in Spain. Web site: https://serge-yablonsky.co/ Arte Laguna World artist profile: https://artelaguna.world/artist/yablonsky-sergey/
