Bella, Hommage à Gims - Limited Edition of 25 Print

‘Bella, Hommage à Gims’, Aluminum Dye Sublimation, 120 X 80 cm (48 X 32 inches), 2020. I created these artistic rose-colored glasses of mine, so as to pay tribute to peace and love between all peoples and religions. Music is an essential element of my life. French music is one of my most favorite genres. It includes categories that span over time, from Charles Aznavour and Joe Dassin to Lara Fabian. The recent years’ wave of singers and rappers is best represented by Gims (formerly aka Maître Gims). Since my years in Paris I have been privileged to attend numerous live concerts of performers who I adore. Sadly, the corona epidemic prevented me last year from enjoying Gims’ concert. Gims, an accomplished French-speaking singer and composer, released his major label debut album, Subliminal, in 2013 which, together with his succeeding albums, proved to be major success across Europe. Many of his songs, among which are J'me tire, Est-ce que tu m'aimes?, Je te pardonne and Bella, turned to be enormous commercial successes. His Bella combines today more than 500M views. Upon realizing that I am going to miss his concert, I decided to couple my rose-colored glasses with this great musician whose voice features a real opera quality. A pair of chic sunglasses plays the leading role in this work, since Gims is always careful to wear them. Also, as my loudspeakers are used to regularly roaring Bella, I felt it is more than right to have Bella as part of the work. Gims portrays Bella’s beauty in the song as ‘une beauté sans pareille’ and ‘synonyme de magnifique’, so the first Bella who crossed my mind was Bella Hadid.
