Cradle Mountain 8bit screen saver Print

This painting is constructed out of 1250 2 inch paintbrushes overlapping in diagonal rows. each brush is individually painted by hand or dipped in paint. The large assemblage is mounted on wood with two hand size holes in the reverse which can be used to mount the work on screws in the wall. The work is an extension of my ongoing experiments recycling the processes and tools of the painter into an interconnected ecosystem. The work has all the nuances of the slight difference in each brush creating up close many painterly decisions and effects but from afar and especially in reproduction can appear digital in some capacity. This juxtaposition is exploited further with the title Cradle Mountain 8-bit Screen Saver directly referencing the digital world and the unique wilderness site in Tasmania, Australia. The silhouetted peaks of the cradle Mountain range are backlit by the predawn light of this extremely southern wilderness and reflected in the Dove Lake at the mountains base. This work is exciting both up close with the textures and shimmer of the bristles of each brush under transperent layers of paint in some cases and soft flat opaque colours on others and a journey for the eyes from a distance when the peaks come into focus. I am the creator to this unique method of image construction and paintbrush assemblage.
