About The Artwork

To create this illustration I thought to the Greek Mermaids with bird-wings, that in origin were 3 handmaids of Persefone, punished by the mother Demeter for their inattention when Hades rape the girl: my drawing-collage is made on paper with ballpoint pen (left side), is inspired by the sculpture "Rape of Proserpina" (1621) of the baroque italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Narrated in the epic of Omero, Ulysses enchanted by the voice and melody of the Sirens and he managed to resist their singing; the poet Licofrone said that after that, the creatures so threw themselves into the sea. The body of Partenope was arrived through the sea in the magno-greek city of Neaples, landscape that I recreated on the background. The aspect of Mermaid changed in Middle-Ages, became an half fish and an half woman, reasons why I called the painting Duality of Partenope. The canvas is 45 x 35 centimeters, with 2 cm of depth for the support of wooden frame behind.

I create drawing with charcoal, painting on raw canvans, modelling clay. I love greek mythology and art history. Fascinated to the landscape and mountain Dolomiti of my region, (Trentino, Italy), I resume the line's moviment of the elements of the nature. Travelling in Japan ispired my sign to the ideogram writing.
