About The Artwork

I start with my own abstract oil or acrylic painting, then add it to DALL E AI. I add a description of the bouquet I’d like to generate. Finally, I move my favorite hybrid image into my digital painting program where I continue to manipulate the image until I’m satisfied with the results. My floral series are inspired by the work and the words of Henri Matisse: “What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity… something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” A respite for the artist, and maybe for you too, in dark times.

I'm interested in the process of exploring and combining shapes, lines, marks, and color-groups to discover (subjectively) compelling forms and compositions. My investigations follow several distinct research paths. One path winds through my small collage studio devoted to combining various color combinations and simple, minimalistic shapes. Another is a process oriented emotional/abstract expressionist large-canvas, mixed-media adventure that begins without a plan and can last a day, a week, a month, or even a year...until the painting feels complete. Yet a third winds through and around Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende, where I’ve lived part-time since 2014. I carry a camera and sketching tools everywhere I go. I've been on the digital path since 1987, when the image manipulation program now known as Photoshop was first invented. I use digital tools on my computer, iPad, and Android phone. My work is in several large collections in Costa Rica and New York City. I live and work in rural-farming communities in Guanajuato and Texas.
