About The Artwork

In this piece, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity in Hinduism is shown bestowing her grace and blessings on viewers whilst seated on a lotus with a garuda (eagle) flying overhead. The garuda's links to Vishnu – the Hindu god who fights injustice and destroys evil in his various avatars to preserve dharma (righteousness)- is an iconic symbol of king's duty and power, an insignia of royalty or dharma. This artwork connotes the importance of gaining wealth through righteous means and that only wealth gained in such manner will last.

L. Patheesan is a Maths tutor and a versatile multi-media artist who is member of the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora based in London who was captivated by the beauty of Bharathanatyam dance and Carnatic music from a young age. She often incorporates natural imagery and codes in her work that mirror the emotion and abstract concepts conveyed by the dance postures whilst adding depth to the subjective experience of her paintings and digital works for viewers. Her other works range from abstract watercolour paintings expressing the beauty of nature to pencil and ink drawings exploring the subconscious mind. She also experiments with generative art to depict excerpts from Hindu epics and mythology as well as borrowing from rich and diverse Eastern philosophies and symbolism to create her generative art seed concepts.
