Of "a", A - Limited Edition 1 of 50 Print

Of "a" is a series of using the two-story a from vaious typefaces as a pattern to create new letters. This series will encompass a full alphabet. I want this work to be instrumental in my always present mission of picturing typography as an illustrative and artistic tool, not just typography. I was inspired by the international typographic movement within graphic design. I saw the use of simple units compounded upon one another to create more complex shapes and forms. This inspired me to look for my own source of shapes and I found that within typography. By using a two-story "a" from Baskerville Oldface, I repeated that element and transformed it's scale and orientation to create patterns and collage those appendages into new letters.
