About The Artwork

art piece to buy CAMERA OBSCURA (a few words from the artist) > This flawless or uniformly textured (tantric) black "square" IS NOT a cheap attempt to shock anybody. (please find my comments about the possible perceived similarities with artworks such as the ones belonging to Kazimir MALEVICH or Mark ROTHKO, etc. at the bottom of this page) > "CAMERA OBSCURA" acts for me as an all-engulfing, non-explicit YANTRA or MATRIX for ALL my other artworks. So presenting it as a stand-alone piece is a STATEMENT about its intrinsic value, often unfairly ignored by many. > BLACK is a powerful symbol used to designate many things from simple physical darkness up to all-pervading universal CONSCIOUSNESS. > It can be also used to symbolize the state of deep SLEEP, or the state of deep MEDITATION, or the SUBCONSCIOUS, or the UNCONSCIOUS, or the UNKNOWN, or the MYSTERIOUS ... all the way till the almost impossible to grasp the concept of pure NOTHINGNESS. > As an artist, I find that it is fascinating to MEDITATE upon the nothingness which precedes, surrounds, and follows all forms of INSPIRATION. > I find indeed fascinating to MEDITATE upon the nothingness which precedes, surrounds, and follows ALL forms of EXISTENCE. > BLACK speaks to me about Plato's CAVE allegory, about perception and senses (questioning their own "reality" and their relationship with "reality"); > BLACK also speaks to me about Socrates' (written) SILENCE, about his SILENCE around the Zalmolxian secrets he's been entrusted with, and about the SERENITY with which he accepted his DEATH. > BLACK also speaks to me about why and how the Tibetan "DARK RETREAT" (mun mtshams) meditation works, or about why we need an OBSCURE CHAMBER for images to magically form inside a photographic device, or inside our own eyes. > etc. etc. etc. ======================================================================================= WHY BUY THIS ARTWORK > Because it brings to any place a beautiful, subtle, deep, purifying, spiritual vibe. > Those brave enough to overcome common prejudice will realize that the silent, infinite-depth of its black instantly absorbs all visual or mental surrounding "noise". ======================================================================================= "CAMERA OBSCURA" AS "IT" > I have always seen ART as an invitation to "MEDITATION"; and this influences the ways I present my work. > "CAMERA OBSCURA", besides being itself an artwork, is also the philosophical engulfing element for ALL my other artworks. > In this last role, I call it "IT". > "IT" can be seen and utilized as a mere passe-partout, but I encourage people to see IT the way IT is: an out of this world "space" picturing the mysterious UNKNOWN dwelling on the OUTSIDE of the visual or ideational framing "equation". > I think that ignoring IT is the beginning of IGNORANCE, and I consider this IMPLICIT, extending or imploding ad infinitum realm, the ECSTATIC part of all my artworks. > The other two parts of my artworks are the AESTHETIC and the CONCEPTUAL ones. > They are EXPLICIT and they dwell inside the visual or the ideational borders of the framing "equation". > Depending on what category they belong to (visual, or strictly ideational), they can be visible or/and invisible, tangible or/and intangible, or combinations of the two. > They govern my IMAGES and TEXTS and sometimes they cannot be separated. ======================================================================================= POST SCRIPTUM > One intrigued guy interested in art asked me recently about the obvious (?) SIMILARITY between my "CAMERA OBSCURA" and Mark ROTHKO's "No. 7/1964". > My answer was that dolphins and fish are two very DIFFERENT things even though they "LOOK" the same; also you can find in the world millions of urinals, but none of them will ever be the same with Marcel DUCHAMP's one, even if someone would be crazy enough to show up with an identical copy. (I know that the original-original one was lost :). > Then I remembered that even Osho confronted the CONFUSION generated by FORM, from a slightly different perspective though. The great yogi said once, talking about the changes in perception caused by meditation, that "Everything is the same, but nothing is the same, because your VISION is NEW". POST POST SCRIPTUM > What if the question was about Kazimir MALEVICH's "Black Square" ?!? Would my answer be different? No. ======================================================================================= FRAMING RECOMMENDATION > Unlike Kazimir MALEVICH's "Black Square", my smooth or uniformly textured artwork is better to be displayed unframed, using a concealed mounting system. > The artwork should look and feel like an infinity-pool of BLACK. ======================================================================================= This 10-LIMITED EDITION > The ORIGINAL, signed artwork is printed on exquisite 285 gsm HAHNEMÜHLE PEARL resin-coated Giclée Fine Art paper, in an EXTRA LARGE 40'' x 40'' (1016 mm x 1016 mm) format. > The artwork is shipped to the buyer in a special, carefully designed ART PROTECTIVE package. > The ARTWORK is numbered and signed on the back. > Each print of this 10-LIMITED EDITION is accompanied by a "CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY" containing all the important information about the ARTWORK. ======================================================================================= Images & Texts Copyright © 2019+ Bogdan ANDA (R) All Rights Reserved - © Reference Number: 195271219S013

• Born in Transylvania, Romania, I currently live and work in Leicester, the UK. =============================== ◙ I started to be interested in art only after I accidentally met a group of "mystic", "uneducated" people, in Benares / India, more than 30 years ago. ◙ One important conclusion that I draw from their teachings was that art can be a privileged spiritual path, for both artists and art lovers. ===============================
