About The Artwork

This work is inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa, by the Japanese painter Katsushika Hokusai, an image that appears repeatedly as an example of fractal structure in art. Benoit Mandelbrot himself, father of fractal geometry, refers to it. The composition is focused on the crest of the wave about to break. The curves of the foam generate other curves that are divided into many small waves that repeat the image of the mother wave. This is the characteristic property of fractals called self-similarity, in which the whole is exact or approximately similar to a part of itself. You will receive a signed unstretched print of the file on canvas in a mailing tube and a certificate of authenticity, both signed by the artist. The work is prepared to be gallery-stretched with staples on the back. The printed work is 93 x 118 cm and once stretched it is 87 x 112 cm. Canvas is Hahnemühle Monet Canvas 410 GSM and 100% cotton. It and stretches very well. It is completely acid and optical brightener free, for truly archival results.

Silvia Dunayevich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she currently resides, after having lived in Manchester (England) and Miami. She grew up in an environment in which art was highly valued. Her parents were art collectors who frequently visited the studios of the great Argentinean masters of painting and sculpture. From an early age, she shared with her father, an engineer, photographer and artist, her passion for the arts and sciences. She used to be by his side at the photo lab listening to his advice and learning from him. He was also an important guide to her reading and thinking.
