VIEW IN MY ROOM
Acrylic on canvas in impressionist style. In this artwork, I painted a Chinese sailing ship called a junk. Used in the past by the Chinese predominantly for purposes of trade throughout Southeast Asia, though by the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) these ships were also incorporated into the armed forces of China.

My work explores the relationship between politics and history with the social world. I experiment with various techniques and approaches in pencil and paint to document the world around me. Ever since I was a teenager, I have been fascinated by the political nature of all facets of the human condition. From choosing from different foods, the consumer goods we purchase, to overt violence and wars, everything is touched upon by politics in some way. In my work, I seek to engage with, learn about, and capture aspects of this shared reality we experience every day. My various methods and approaches to creation are constantly informed by artistic engagement and academic research, all in the hope that the viewer is left greater understanding or questions about the world.
