About The Artwork
The couple at the foot of the cross are supposed to represent Adam and Eve who have discovered that the only way back into the Garden is through Jesus on the cross. The centurion is the first gentile convert looking to the cross as he realises that the man on the cross must be the Son of God. The repentant criminal in the foreground is having a hard time but will soon be in paradise; the unrepentant criminal is about to be consumed by the darkness.
