Before I get attacked, the title is not meant to be derogatory in any way, but a representation of the times in which the underlying collage elements were obtained. Over a period of 6-8 years I collected newspaper clippings documenting the exposure of alternative lifestyles through the proliferation of AIDS virus news, in the media. My own naivete was resolved through the creative process and acknowledgement of alternative instinctual attractions resulting in this representational piece. The flag is representative of sexual instinct, the instinct itself is the same be you male or female but depending on your viewpoint or perspective you can see it (the flag) from one side or the other. The flag's inspiration and execution is a homage to Johns of course, as well as Van Gogh's use of texture.
