Bill's Bone Print

This is a commission by a friend who is a retired professor of brass at a major university. He wanted a painting of his favorite horn. The instrument itself is a beautiful piece, and my friend is a master at playing it. It was a joy to work on because of these reasons. I use the classical technique of oil painting, first applying an underpainting, then layering glazes of color to create a deep, multi-layered image. I have always been drawn to a rather tight Asian-inspired subject focus in my work. I also have always been a big fan of the Renaissance artists, like Rembrandt, and the realism and story-telling of Andrew Wyeth and Norman Rockwell.
