About The Artwork

As an artist, Diana Roman’s mixed media artworks show her interest in creating surreal compositions, influenced by Joan Miro’s painting and also combining - in a very surprising manner - motifs present in Romanian traditional ethnic carpets. Her painting is bright, the colors are unexpected for the represented forms, emphasizing thus the surreal world depicted. In Diana’s works coexist made-up symbols and ancient Dacian motives, strong colors, gold, silver, or neon-like marks, showing her desire to recuperate tradition and re-formulate it through contemporary visions. She uses unexpected juxtapositions of textures, mixed media, and figurative elements that lead the viewer into another kind of visual world. So inventing forms and simplifying natural ones represent Diana’s quest for abstraction and surreal.
