About The Artwork

Bodrum, located in Turkey on a peninsula which marks where the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas meet, was the ancient Greek city of Halicarnassus in the 5th Century B.C. Its most famous native was the historian Herodotus and it is also where Alexander the Great stayed during his voyages of conquest. It has been very well-known to archaeologists for many years. In modern times, Bodrum’s scenic natural beauty and year-round mild weather began attracting Turkish artists, musicians, and writers who started settling and retiring there in the 1960-70’s. As a result, it has a lively cultural life and has become a very popular resort town for foreign tourists as well as international movie stars and celebrities who can still enjoy ‘incognito’ status more easily than elsewhere in Europe! Most homes are built of limestone or concrete blocks with white-washed walls and the wooden doors and shutters are painted in a variety of pastel colors. There is lush, beautiful vegetation everywhere you look but especially marked are the flowering bougainvillier bushes which love the sunny, dry climate of the long summers.

Neo-classical realism to post-impressionist painting style; oil on canvas. I am an artist who has lived and painted in nine different countries on three continents during the past twenty-five years. My art represents an attempt to capture the diversity of scenery, people, and objects I have encountered during my travels. I also enjoy the challenge of bringing specific events or history to life on canvas.
