About The Artwork

A meditation on the sermon on the mount (Mathew 5-6) : "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house". When in Mathew 6 we are advised to build our houses on solid rock, we understand in fact that it is on the organic dynamic of enlightenment of the Self, and bringing forth of the Self in truthful speech, that the house has to be built. The painting begun in 2014, with a dripping style medium (cf. J. Pollock) to embody organic forms. I struggled a long time with the painting, trying to bring structure into the organic forms, but all my attempts remained unsuccessful. It was my artistical retreat in Pont-Aven in 2019 that finally brought me the key, and the solution. By bringing light in the center of the canvas, the organic dripping movement now functioned as a form of materiality, thus the organic had become crystallized, materialized. But the light, emanating from the two archetypal figures at the center, seems simultaneously to bring back to live this fallen asleep organic space. Thus the light emanates from the two archetypal structures in the inside of the framework (i.e. human zip of lights, i.e. reduced Barnett Newman zip), reproducing the larger vertical light zip structuring of the painting on the right; a work with the verticality of light evoking the Genesis 1 motive of "bringing to life, bringing to light, bringing to structure...through truthful speech". It is thus through this "speech and light" that the materialized organic comes to life again; The light of speech resurrecting the fallen asleep dynamics of truthfulness; and the burning of dead wood, coming, once again, to illuminate the world, by making it habitable.

My creative work grounds in a profound connection to life, the organic space and the historicity of western art and civilization. As a philosophy teacher and researcher, I have explored the relationship to Nature that the western civilization has established since it's inception in classical art and philosophy, and try to think a new fundamental ontology, being able to re-open history after the postmodern. This research opened up my interest to the dialectic structure of art history, but also to the dynamics of narrative structures as present in myth, archetypal storytelling and film. I today propose seminars both for Art/ Architecture or film schools, trying to articulate narratives after post-modernity. Art/ Architectural and Arch' narratives that, though integrating the modern, take us back to pre- classical Ontologies of Nature and storytelling (cf. for example the Stonehenge/ Woodhenge ontology of Matter - life/ The Biblical narratives taken from a humanistic/ mythical perspective). Art/ Aesthetics, beyond a simple Window, opened on the world (Cf. Alberti), become a Doorway, restoring and revitalizing our shared symbolic experiences. Art/ Architecture/Narrative as a symbolic form, reawakening a common "Lebenswelt" (Lifeworld), from a new felt sense of past and future.
