About The Artwork

I began this work with an urge to create straight horizontal lines on the canvas, but without having to paint a lot of straight lines and so this was achieved using thin blue paint and gravity. This became the background of what might be perceived as sky and sea. I then created what could be described as an abstract architectural jumble. Part of this jumble recedes into the distant mountain scape that emerges from it so far away . As so many modern cities do, it threatens to overtake and obliterate the beauty from the land and seashore that is built on. Nevertheless I have populated my city with the richest and wildest colours and combinations and the most extravagant and opulent curves. I painted some very straight lines that contain and contain the colourful touches but I didn't use any aids like masking tape or even a straight edge, it was all done by hand using a Rigger brush with super long bristles. I really let go doing this one, it is one of my favourites and has been exhibited in an architects practice in central London.

First I was a Painter, then I was a Painter again, now I am a painter again and again. Born in 1955 in Uxbridge ,England, I now live in central London and take many trips to Europe, the Middle East and India. On many journeys, the best moments stay in the mind even when they miss the camera, so photos are used only as a reference and are not copied as its the feeling rather than the actual that I convey in my painting which I do from my home based studio space.I have a long history of producing paintings, I still have my first large panel, signed 1974. Sadly, a lot of my work from the late 60s and 70s has been lost or suffered catastrophic destruction over the years, but I cannot help but produce new work, more or less whatever my circumstances.
