About The Artwork

Danube Delta Tempera and egg on vellum (finished leather) - Renaissance technique Size: 160 x 120 cm The painting describes in a special manner the wonder of Danube Delta where marine landscape meets its inhabitant: hundreds of species of birds, fish, animals and plants. The planiglobe is the central piece of the painting, yet the main “character” remains Danube Delta and its wonderful water world. This piece of art is part of a series of world maps painted on leather, describing in well- documented stories of specific worlds and histories across the globe/ regions ( of chess, of coffee, of horses, wine, pharmacy) . Differentiation: The technique is a rare find within contemporary artists. Heavy, specially prepared leather turns into vellum and the painter describes on it the story of the world. The painter Vali Irina Ciobanu developed her own technique on painting with watercolours on vellum, while experimenting old Renaissance style. Unlike oil painting on canvas, leather has its own personality transposing it on the piece of visual piece of art. Few words the painting: The Map of Danube Delta is not a landscape, but a journey through Leatea Woods, the world of birds, animals, plants, flowers and places representative for Danube. They are iconically painted in a woven story of the place, hence every person should understand the meaning of each component within Danube Delta. You may consider it as a realist painting expressed in symbolist manner using a rare painting technique. It is a colourful, large size, piece of painting. Dark blue of the water meets the mesmerising blue of the sky. Fish in silver hues animate this representative map of Danube Delta. The Green, white and pink of the flora, flow over the blues between sky and water. Exhibitions: "Visual histories around the world from map to art" at the Museum of Maps and Old Books in Bucharest in April-May 2017, as well as at the “Danube Delta -strength through fragility” (2017) and "Visual histories all around the world" at the Renaissance Art Gallery in 2018 Vali Irina Ciobanu about her work: "It took me a few months to put a lot of information on the Danube Delta in a visual form, and did you know that there are over 325 species of birds in the Danube Delta that are 133 species of fish? they are protected or endangered ...? Letea is a forests of oak trees, but also includes ash, lime and poplar. It is the only place in Europe where liane meet, and the exotic plants here have emerged from the seeds brought from Africa by migratory birds. Oh, my God, a notion of more interesting information. I hope I have been able to capture the essentials of the Danube Delta in this work. "

My life has been dedicated to fine art and bringing life to forgotten, beautiful techniques such as the Dutch Painting styles. Also, my works include painting leather maps of the history of Coffee, Chess, Wine, Danube Delta and many more. These works started with extensive research of places and original stories that give way to imagination and retrospective. I'm a full time artist living in Bucharest Romania, passionate about movement, human gestures and finding inedit stories that I express in my painting. My hope is to bring those wonderful details if life to art lovers.
