About The Artwork

Fire and Ash series, painting I "Vesuvius" by J M Lister J M Lister's Fire and Ash series features carousel-like horses as metaphors for the world's deadliest volcanoes. The horses capture the wild spirit and unpredictability of these particular natural disasters in a terrible beauty all their own. Vesuvius is the first installment in this series. He is the red stallion with the amber eye, tossing his head in the wind, screaming. Looking at him, one feels the tension as if the horse is about to explode. Behind him, dimly, in shades of black, gray, red, and yellow, lay the shadows of the mountains. This work was influenced by master carousel carver Marcus Illions and painter Théodore Géricault. This artwork is not yet listed for sale. It isn't quite dry and is unvarnished. However, prospective buyers are welcome to contact the artist.
