I am inspired by details in nature and the colors, shape and texture that it presents. Rocks are rarely noticed and studied by most people but have incredible, subtle, depth and complicated colour and texture. They also have a meditative quality and can be a focal point for contemplation and centring. I select unique stones, sketch them, sometimes photograph them, and then return them to the beach for someone else to find. They are chosen for color, intricacies and proportions. The backgrounds are painted with wet-on-wet technique and once dry, the stone illustrations are added, painted from life. The artwork has a meditative, serene quality, with relaxing color and will inspire calmness and peace. The stone is a simple reminder that everything is subject to change. Even a rock, that seems to be so permanent and stable, will change form over time.
