About The Artwork

On a flight back to Minnesota from the Pacific coast, I marveled at the anti-mimetic quality (life imitating art) of the landscape below. I instantly knew that I wanted to capture this moment on the canvas. Working with the subtle hues of the image I captured by photo was more challenging than I had expected. The context of the airplane wing inserts the indubitable human presence into so many landscapes that we appreciate as something other than what we represent as humans - those who manufacture. Yet, we humans are natural ourselves. This work takes a playful stance on the confluence of natural spaces and machinery built for the convenience of humans.

Maddy Kaudy is a St. Paul-based painter and printmaker. She believes that the experience of art is a celebration of our humanness. The full spectrum of this encounter begins with what she derives as an artist in the process of creating. The cycle is completed once the audience brings work to its final culmination with the acts of viewing, interacting, and reacting. This contact is fluid through time, and though her works are forged by her hands, they draw on her internalization of the spiritual nature of shared humanity. This continually evolving exchange allows both artist and viewer to learn about one another and the self via shared experience in this temporary existence. Maddy believes in the infinite nature of expression and her vocation is to act as conduit between a driving artistic force outside of the self and the people who make up her audience. Her responsibility is to bring original works into physical manifestation and to share fearlessly and with gratitude.
