“Falling Up” is a series of paintings created in response to the Yorkshire landscape. Jagger revisited the area where she grew up to explore the landscape from a new perspective. Her sketches and paintings focus on the flow of water through the landscape, metaphorically water transforming from cloud to rain, then river source to sea, representing one cycle of life. The elements at play suggest the force of nature and inevitable passing of time, the man-made architecture and objects on the landscape provide signposts to locations, time and a human scale. This painting is a direct response to the Yorkshire landscape and sketches made on Holme Moss, a high moorland overlooking Holme Valley bordering the Peak District. "The light in this area of the world seems to be carried on the wind, one minute the air is filled with possibility, the next, dark clouds are rolling in and the nature of the day is totally transformed. The moment of transition is often signalled by something spectacular, in this case it was the fleeting brilliance of the rainbow. Momentarily the rainbow seemed to unify the earth, the sky and the elements perfectly and then it was gone."
