About The Artwork

This is a large, bold, expressive painting in ink and acrylic on gallery wrapped textured polypropylene (Yupo). It is composed of layers of ink applied by spraying and dripping and poured acrylic medium and fluid acrylic paint. I used brushes to move the ink around after it has been applied and a silicone wedge to carve out shapes and move the poured medium. This painting was made on a 60 x 58 inch sheet of textured polypropylene which has been wrapped around gallery depth professional stretcher bars and outfitted with a wire for easy installation. The final product is very similar to a painting on stretched canvas, but the bare surface of the polypropylene is completely smooth, lacking the tooth of primed canvas. The parts of painting which are only touched by ink or left bare have a smooth matte finish, while the areas covered by acrylic medium are very glossy like pools of suspended water. The title comes from an Italian idiom, "in bacca al lupo" which literally translates to "in the mouth of the wolf" but idiomatically means "good luck".
