About The Artwork

48 x 72" acrylic, ink, holographic glitter, and plastic gems on canvas 2014 Blake Brasher Unframed - ready to hang Yes, I suppose it is a Beastie Boys reference. But also a reference to string theory. I gave this painting its title after listening to Brian Greene's "Fabric of the Cosmos" on Audible. There is a sort of sub-theory in string theory that suggests that the Real Universe is actually composed of several more dimensions than our familiar four (three spatial dimensions plus one time dimension) and that our familiar four dimensional universe is simply a four dimensional bubble within that multidimensional Universe, also known as a brane. Branes come in all dimensions. 1-branes, 2-branes, 3-branes, and branes of in determinant dimensions, M-Branes. There is even a (recently debunked, I think) theory that suggests that our whole deal, as an observable universe, is a sort of balletic duet with a near identical (or opposite) M-Brane containing its own mirror universe that bounces off of our own M-Brane universe every trillion years or so. My understanding is that recent evidence suggests inflation theory is more correct and the bouncing brane theory is less so. And so but anyway, this is sort of a painting about space and time and the things beyond. The large and the small. The cosmic and the microscopic. It has something at just about every level perceivable by your human brain and perception system. Taken as a whole, it might be interpreted as a sort of star gobbling inter dimensional space monster, turning a colorful cosmos into the dreary white and mostly black of a night sky. But, all around, fields of color suggest different modalities ways the Universe could have been. The painting is deep in levels. You can pick out any particular part and dig into its history. "Insane in the M-Brane" is painted on a high quality gallery depth (1 1/2 inches) stretched canvas. The edges are unfinished and show drip marks which give insight into the creative process. If it were me, I'd hang it without a frame. It doesn't need one.
