About The Artwork
I was skeptical about my training in Freudian theory at the University of Chicago. I completed this painting composed of subliminal sexual images using oil colors over collage. I entered this painting into the staid Municipal Art League of Chicago Art Competition. It was awarded the 1968 New Artist Recognition Award. During the opening I was told that 2 long term judges threatened to resignt unless the painting won the award. Two others threatened to resign if the painting was included in the show. Oil colors over collage on reinforced Masonite panel. Completed 1968 in my Chicago coal bin studio. .
