"It's a New Day \ Passin' Me By" is from a series of work entitled These Are The Breaks, where I draw inspiration from Hip-Hop songs and the breakbeats or samples used within them in order to examine moments within history, whether grandiose or the minute. The visuals for the series is heavily influenced by old panels from romance comics. This piece in particular focuses on the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The text used in the painting comes from the song "Passin' Me By" by The Pharcyde, where the emcee Fatlip starts his verse off with "Now there she goes again, the dopest Ethiopian". A painting about peace and hope for the future. A New Day. It comes with hanging materials installed and can be easily removed if needed.
