About The Artwork

I painted this portrait of Jesus' Agony in the Garden at Gethsemane at the beginning of the 2021 Lenten season. I painted this image on a 8x10 canvas panel. In the beginning stages of art I had looked at other portraits of Jesus in the garden and used those as inspiration. First, I sketched the depiction, and then I painted over it. I chose Jesus to have dark hair and shoulder length. I also painted figures by the garden tree. Perhaps they are the apostles or those to take Jesus away. I used gold paint to outline Jesus to illustrate the significance of this moment and being the Son of God.

I am Julie Frechette, and I got started in painting later in life. I have not had any formal training, except the online art tutorials of how to draw. My art began just before the Covid Pandemic, but it did provide a way to keep myself busy in the evenings when places were closed down. One of my sister's gave me a Bob Ross painting kit stocking stuffers for Christmas at the end of 2019. When I was back at my apartment, I started painting on the mini canvas provided with the kit. And, I got hooked. I wanted to keep on painting. Over the years the painting canvas sizes grew and perhaps the subjects got more personal. Presently, I live with my mother as her caregiver. I suppose painting has offered a release from this often overwhelming and stressful experience. The caregiving has become a full-time task, which makes it difficult to hold down a steady job. And, due to my growing collection of artwork, I have decided to sell my paintings in hope of providing some income. I am very thankful for your stopping to look at my work and reading my bio.
