The effects of rampant consumerism on society are sickening especially when reflecting upon the downtrodden of the U.S. ghettos. Some people in the hood will spend a car-note on a pair of “KICKZ” aka sneakers. In a sense it’s like one is lynching themselves. Add the symbolism of sneakers on telephone wire and what that stands for (a place where you can find drugs). The painting is a combining of the past and present focusing on consumerism with imagery that harkens back to the “picnics” (lynching photography) of the early 20th century. The end result is a painting that is somber, haunting, and "black" in so many ways.

Today I hold many titles: father, partner, artist, rapper, friend, brother, uncle (I could go on, but I won't). Outside of the family I am currently building with my partner, my art is the most important thing to me. My art represents my perspective of the world & this perspective is heavily influenced by culture. Four cultures specifically: Hip Hop culture (I don't mean the music genre, but the actual culture, 'Google' it), African-American culture, Puerto-Rican culture, American/U.S. culture. I identify ethnically as Afroborinqueño (Afro-Puerto-Rican). Now you may be asking yourself what this has to do with my art well if you read the previous paragraphs, everything. I am a naturally gifted artist. I have been writing on walls since the age of two. I attempted art-school, but I had to drop out after a semester due to it being so expensive. Again, most importantly, becoming a financially viable working artist is my goal. Pride, self, worth, and independence is what we are all looking for. So hopefully my art can be of some value in the ever fickle 21st century.
