About The Artwork

This painting belongs to a series of paintings capturing the views I collected during a walk around the Lago die Poschiavo in the Swiss Alps. When we started the walk the sky was blue, the mountains were partly lit already throwing their long afternoon shadows and the lake surface acting like a mirror reflected back the scenery mixed with the deep blue-green tone of the water. Later on clouds came in proclaiming rain and only a view spots of sunlit ground in the distance were left providing an even more impressive view with the dark mountains framing the little light that was left. The painting Lago di Poschiavo (II) captured the scene at the beginning of the walk when we were heading in the direction of Miralago with the lake and surrounding mountains radiating a majestetic warm inner calmness that was resonated by a couple of trees standing prominently and perfectly still at the shore. Materials used: Schmincke HORDAM Watercolours (Artist Quality) on ARCHES® mould-made Watercolour paper, 100% cotton, 185 g/m² Format of the paper: about 56 cm x 76 cm Format of the painting: 50 x 75 cm (it is actually about 1-2 mm larger on each side so that it can be conveniently mounted behind a passepartout with a 50 x 75 cm window)."

I was born and grew up in Southern Germany nearby Stuttgart. As a scientist by education nature always played a major role in my life. The scientist in me is fascinated by the inner beauty of nature, based on complex yet perfectly designed systems down to the smallest details. My artist sole is craving for the beautiful landscapes nature presents, the interplay of light and shadows, the well designed shapes and colours of plants and flowers.
