Lee Marvin, the Killers Print

Danger, freedom, and desire click along frame by frame, painting by painting to form a liquid allegory. The artist is superimposed into and through the b movie archetypes, using film stills. As a group they lay out a narrative that is compelling and ambiguous, swimmers, monsters and heroines point to some kind of illusive plot. The paintings are inspired by european B-movie horror films from the 60’s and 70’s, I first watched as a teenager in California. Those from Hammer Studios, Mario Bava and Jesus Franco shown in double feature at the Cornell theater in my home town of Burbank also the home of Warner brothers and Disney studios, but I was drawn to the darker side and not what Disney had to offer. I am also a hairdresser, sometimes his clients would simply point to a starlet magazine and say: I want my hair like that! Through my paintings I have solidified the two ideas into a macabre version of a style guide.
