As the child of a commercial artist - my mother, I grew up in New Orleans with a love and appreciation for all things creative. Although I also loved science and ended up pursuing a career in Biology, and then on to graduate school earning a Masters degree in Public Health, art has always been my true passion. While in college, I used my free credits to take some instruction from the head of the art department who was a medical illustrator. I ended up illustrating a two volume medical textbook during the 9 month gap I had free before starting graduate school. I also did some freelance work in medical illustration for journal publications during that time. Over the years I continued to paint in various mediums and styles, and have participated in shows, winning several awards for my work. Perhaps my most noteworthy accomplishment over the years has been the opportunity to design wearable silk art - ties and scarves, for the New Mexico Museums gift shops, including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum gift shop. I continue to pursue the study of art techniques, always with the intent of making my art as visually pleasing and applying the expertise I have learned over the years to hone my individual style. Presently, I am represented at Art Source Gallery here in Reno NV where I now live. Andrée Cucullu
