About The Artwork

'Makar Pravaah' is inspired from the imaginary creature called Makar in Newar mythology from Kathmandu, Nepal. Makar is half crocodile and half peacock. It is seen in the artfully carved stone spouts of Kathmandu, called Dhungedhara or LwoHiti. Apart from Makar, rarely these stone spouts also include designs of goat and rodents, which are all brought together in this painting as one complex form keeping the flow like that of freely moving water. Note: The original work is collected by Shailesh Rajbhandari. Only prints are available for purchase.
