About The Artwork

This painting was inspired by the color schemes of Marrakech including the famous Majorelle Bleu. I bought the Majorelle pigment in the Medina of Marrakech and this painting represents the unity of the Moroccan people.

I seek to evoke emotions in the viewers of my work while leaving them space to experience their own feelings and emotions. For example, painting the back of a woman could invoke solitude, sadness or independence. The painting of a dancer could suggest joy while capturing grace and movement. I enjoy seeing reactions to my work as it allows me to see through the eyes of others and to use this vision to influence my painting. I am refining my interpretive, impressionistic style by learning new skills and studying the works of other artists. This process has allowed me to create my own unique painting style. I have lived part time for eight years in and near Aix-en-Provence. I always feel so taken with the light, the beauty, the culture and with being in an environment that is rustic yet elegant and simply magical. I enjoy using the interplay of shifting light, background and reflection as it transforms a figure or landscape. My main medium is now oil and I also create paintings with mixed media, mainly oil and paper. I have been studying painting in a variety of mediums including pastels, oil, acrylic and mixed media but gravitate towards oil painting. I prefer impressionistic styles rather than the realistic. My objective for those viewing my work is for them to understand how my art allows me to conjure moods that change based on the luminosity of the colors I choose. I am drawn to paint pensive female figures that signify strength and beauty.
