About The Artwork

I paint fishes because I believe they represent an important part of mediterranean culture. Because I am living by the sea, fishes are always part of my everyday life. The castle is the 'New Castle' of Naples In some watercolours the line of the horizon makes them look the world in an atmosphere between dream and reality which often represents my town.

Antonio De Rosa (Naples 1958) graduated in piano performance at the Music Academy of Naples, with the hignest grade. He did his postgraduate studies with the renowned Polish piano player specialized in the Chopin repertoire Marian Mika. Antonio, as a “maestro collaboratore” helped Mr Mika in organizing the Interantional piano courses. As a soloist Antonio has played for the most important Italian music and cultural asssociations. In Naples he has performed for the University Federico II and the Grenoble French cultural institute. He has recently performed in the Haldane Room of Wolfson College Oxford. As a sculptor , Antonio designs and produces full scale grand pianos using a variety of materials. These "mute objects" are contextualised and destructured in such a way to express something which is no longer music. For many years Antonio’s artistic objective has been to express the dynamic world of the instrument through installations or watercolours. His grand pianos represent the gesture and the realisation of a musical sensibility - a constant obsession over the years - undergoing the same destiny of -composition and recomposition, suspended in space and time, and yet tenaciously anchored in reality. The piano becomes an instrument of torture and liberation in an extended dream journey through light and dark, density and void. As a painter since 1998 Antonio has shown interest in watercolors leading him to his meeting with Pedro Cano. www.antonioderosa.net
