About The Artwork

MMXXI or 2021 - a pandemic year. The man in red blowing bubbles through a star-shaped bubble wand is China. COVID-19 is transmitted via our saliva or water droplets from our breath. The bubbles contain the virus and spread all over the world. The sleeping woman is the world. She sleeps because all the activities in the world slowed down during the pandemic. When a bubble touches an unprotected part of her body, a white flower grows. In her other body parts, where it is protected by her shirt, no white flower grows. This symbolizes death. Many people died, especially those who were vulnerable. Some of the bubbles burst upon coming close to the sun in the background. This pertains to the release of the vaccines that help contain the spread of COVID-19. The worried man next to China represents other world leaders who found it hard to contain the virus and keep their economies afloat. China holds a walking stick--seemingly blind to its role as the original source of the virus. They refuse to acknowledge their fault that resulted in the hardships that people endured and millions of deaths all across the globe. Until today, they have not issued an apology for covid. No reparations to other countries have been done. They do not see their fault.

I paint visual narratives. I try to visualize information, issues, contradictions, scenarios, events, fallacies, and realities of life and weave everything into a story. Lately, my work has been focusing on social and political visual narratives. Most of the time, I use symbolism and prefer to create a scene with elements seemingly disconnected from each other.
