“One thousand days to forge, then thousand days to polish” Miyamoto Musashi Mars Black. The knife’s blade carves the canvas and leaves its first trace. When brushed, a metallic sound resonates; living matter and raw body take shape. Musashi reveals itself through an imprint of time, of everyday life, of an action. Iridescent blue-green. The light strikes the canvas like a constellation. The artist’s aerial, spatial and spontaneous expression follows the course of an innate story. Layers follow one another, without resembling each other. Paraphrasing the gesture of a conductor, the painter’s hand relentlessly flows on the painting, animated by past or present traces sown by mankind. Primary yellow. The last trace is laid; the canvas is sealed. Invincible warrior or celestial dancer, our spirit travels according to the artist’s movement. As long as one’s sensitivity is affected, the final purpose bares little significance. Fruit of a true reflection, each shade reflects a unique light, attracts the eye and nourishes interpretation. Through his art work, Alexis Reynaud leaves a trace of his inspiration, his imagination, his life.

Switzerland
Alexis Reynaud is a Swiss photographer, who became known for his book “Genève, Voyage Urbain”. His work has been shown in Art Basel Selection, Kiaf/11 Seoul and Scope Basel, as well as in several galleries and art fairs across Paris, Hong Kong and Zurich. His photography work showcases, most notably, petrified wood that evokes aerial maps and nude, darkened bodies captured by the elegance that existed in bronze status marked by and frozen in time. His work has created a path between the visible and the indescribable. It unites these two elements through a dreamlike canvas, and challenges us on what we think is real by offering us alternating viewpoints. Alexis Reynaud’s photography work is part of private and public collections.
