About The Artwork

I am interested in Ukrainian grandmothers as a unique Slavic matriarchal archetype of a guardian woman. A series of works "Berehyni" - images of Ukrainian grandmothers, their last generation, which we are losing slow and imperceptibly. These are the grandmothers we meet in queues, in transport, in the village, in the market or in the sleeping area. By changing our point of view, we cease to perceive them as a purely personal family history or as a ballast of society. Instead, we begin to rediscover the matriarchal archetype of Ukrainian queens. In my works, I often refer to the image of Queen Elizabeth II, which is both a flag and a manifesto that unites all Britons. Combining folk motifs and techniques with modern ones (acrylic, oil, spray, embroidery on canvas) I create a bridge for a new interpretation of images. During the coronavirus pandemic Berehyns were at risk, which only exacerbated my need to record my observations.

In my work I`m trying to explore human situations and dramas through the prism of nature landscape. People are separating yourself with their mind and intelligence from nature ecosystem from which they came out. Plein air painting expeditions helped me to feel the rhitms and correlations behind the civilization; to understand myself and my point. Actually this is how image becomes an icon. i combine an abstrat landscape with an ortodox icon principles.
