About The Artwork

Since old times, a folk song has accompanied a person throughout his life: a lullaby, girls' meetings for needlework, work, war, funerals, and holidays. In joy, love, or sadness, the song helps a person to realize his purpose and comfort his soul. Now is just such a moment for the Ukrainian people, when the song and whole culture help to turn to our roots, unite, and stop the invasion that has come to our home. The folk song "Oh in the meadow red Kalyna" has become a hymn of freedom for Ukrainians now. As for me, working on this self-portrait was therapeutic, I experienced all the rage and despair that war fills me with. The red beads on the traditional necklace resemble Kalyna (Guelder rose) berries and the "golden" background symbolizes hope and the truth that will win.
