This work comes varnished and ready to hang in a black wood float frame. Born in Coventry in 1960 I have been painting all my life - graduating from London's Hornsey College of Art in the early eighties training under John Yeadon and John Loker. My work from then and up into the late nineties followed a convoluted route through the influences of the American Abstract Expressionists and the British colourists Hodgkin and Hoyland. These recent groups of paintings explore my responses to the local landscapes and harbours of North Kent and a development of some earlier still lifes fom the early noughties. This painting 'Orange Stretch #VI' is one of a group where I attempt to resolve the images and shapes found amongst the boats and high harbour walls. This image of tension developed and was the early incarnation of the Wurlitzer motif which is an ongoing project. I have been experimenting with the use of used canvases where the previous paintings texture shows through. The arch becomes again the motif which helps me control the framing and the colour. My paintings are the only way I can express my reality, a poem of reality if you like. I have eventually succumbed to years of pressure from friends and colleagues and for the first time I have put some of my work out on the market

Born in Coventry in 1960 I attended The Lanchester School of Art then onto London's Hornsey College of Art graduating in the early eighties training under the John Yeadon and John Loker. My work from then and up into the nineties followed a route through the influences of the American Abstract Expressionists and the British colourists Hodgkin and Hoyland. I began to develop a style of abstraction through work with the human figure and still life compositions and sold well. These recent groups of paintings explore my responses to landscape and are also developments of some earlier still lifes from early 2000. Using a considerable amount of preliminary drawing my paintings become the final physical response to what I see. I feel painting is a way of taking my experience and giving it back to the observer in an a way that is both exciting and perceptive. Although I have sold many pieces over the years the success of 2017's body of work has forced me to succumbed to decades of constant pressure from fellow artists and for the first time I have began to seriously market my work some of which dates back over 30 years..
