About The Artwork

The angle of this painting is perfect in its closeness to the subject. Cow's noses are so touchable. I like the idea of it being so close that part of the subject is out of the painting.

Lou Stafford, originally from the Midlands but now living in Shropshire via the Isle of Bute attended teacher training college in Derby studying art as her main subject. Her passion for art and design strengthened but she realised that teaching was not for her. She has worked as a Garden Designer and Wedding Florist where her “eye” for colour and arrangement won her prizes. More recently circumstance and determination has allowed her to further her passion for art. Being completely self-taught in the medium of watercolour she finds her own ways to produce work through experimentation and trial and error. Whilst living on the Isle of Bute she was part of the popular island art trail and still exhibits her work at Mount Stuart. She has also been a member of the Herefordshire Guild of Designer Crafts People with whom she exhibited and sold her work as well as exhibiting and selling at other events and galleries. Lou Stafford’s individual style has developed over the last few years after self-publishing her first children’s book where as well as writing she also illustrated the book. Her fascination for colour and texture is used in her watercolours where she has a lightness of touch which is influenced by her love of the countryside whether it be coastal or more inland.
