Prayer to the Throngs Print

This began as an abstract piece, a meditation where I randomly allowed my subconscious and/or an unseen force choose all colors, strokes, and shapes for me. It is a sort of art therapy. I painted this in the middle of the Coronavirus Covid-19 epidemic of 2020 while on lockdown and I had just read about the lockdown in India which was having a terrible effect on the poor. When I came out of my meditation/trance and actually looked at what I was painting, I clearly saw two women, one in a sari and one in a kimono, both bowing and praying to the masses, trying to protect the beautiful spaces and things that they enjoy as the more affluent while also having concern and compassion for the throngs of poor and less fortunate caught up in this terrible mess. There is so little anyone can do! So these women are facing this truth, with a line of gold dividing rich and poor. With humility and compassion they bow and pray to those who may rise and rage any moment out of sheer desperation.
