About The Artwork

This is No. 6 of my new series of still life paintings of "Roses in a Chinese Vase". While the outlines are unchanged, the colours are varied. I always start with the colour of the roses and let the other colours be chosen intuitivly to form a certain composition. I like to not know beforehand how the painting will look like in the end.

Margit Pendelin was born in Schwerte / Ruhr in 1964 and is self-taught. After learning to draw with Betty Edwards' method, in which the right brain hemisphere is activated, she copied old masters in oil, also painted photo-realistically for a while and finally found her own distinctive painting style in 1998. Her painted star portraits were exhibited in Eltville and Bad Homburg and enthusiastically received by the public. With her depictions of Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Agynes Deyn and many other celebrities from art and culture, Margit Pendelin continues the development of portrait painting according to Andy Warhol and Alex Katz in a new form. In her idiosyncratic way of painting, Pendelin deliberately dispenses with any form of brushstroke as a stylistic device and shows us her own unmistakable visual language, in which masterful composition, precision and color clarity are convincing. Lines and surfaces vie for dominance in the picture and yet always end up in a surprisingly constructive juxtaposition. The art project “People with their Dogs” emerged naturally from the Star Portraits series after two visitors liked the painting “Paris Hilton with her dog Tinkerbell in Miami” so much that they wanted to be painted with their dogs themselves. In the meantime, more than 50 of these double portraits have been created, and thus the world's most extensive painting cycle by an artist on this special subject, which has been very popular in art history. The pictures from the “People with their Dogs” series will be exhibited from November 7th to 18th, 2022 in the foyer of Wiesbaden City Hall. Further picture cycles with flowers, still lifes, landscapes and architecture have been started and develop into a multifaceted work.
