About The Artwork

The title has taken the same name as a well known painting by the spanish artist Francisco Goya. It belongs to the "Black Paintings” series. He did not write about these paintings, is not known to have spoken about them, and made no effort to name them. Names were chosen by other people years after his death, based upon the presumed content and meaning of each work. My piece is a reinterpretation of Goya´s violent and disturbing picture. A distorted figure clustered against a black background was created and mixed on the computer, using photo-retouching application. Then every part was meticulously drawing like the previous sketch, which could be described as painted collage. Current Psychotic Realism series include paintings which no doubt reflected an increasingly sick and paranoid society. The abstraction is joined by dismembered figurative images. This iconic game articulates different degrees of concretion of reality in the same work. The Yellow shape crossing and breaking the composition is a “retain blemish” or non expressive shape. The first view expressiveness is not exactly the way how these painting are made. I also would like to outline that the black shape is painted saving the raw canvas.

My work extends in parallel through various artistic media, but painting has always been my main form of production. My growing interest in the performing arts has given rise to a painting style that is increasingly open, both technically and conceptually. One the one hand, the kind of images I make has evolved over the years, based on an attitude not unlike action painting, which has gradually purified the forms and given rise to a self-contained painting style. It is no longer gestural, since it is not based on spontaneity or the expressiveness of the materials. Instead, it has developed a strong tendency to mimesis, to the simulation of gesture and its effects through the precision of drawing.
