About The Artwork
This is one of only seven works of my works that were done near the end of the 20th century in Yosemite. They were done just after the birth of my son William Fontana Jr. What would follow was a 11 year gap in my painting production because I was busy helping to raise Will and his sister Amelia who was born two years after Will. These works were done on Chinese paper sent to me from Taiwan by a friend. I believe it was my love of Chinese mountain painting that led to the production of these end of the millennium works on Chinese cotton paper. In this painting I continues to use a intertwined colored light style that I had developed after 1990.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
