About The Artwork
I am fascinated by the myth of Shiva. Shiva the Dancer is a powerfully inspiring icon of Indian culture. Shiva is usually worshiped in the form of the Lingam, but in the temple at Chidambaram He is the dancer. My visit to Chidamabaram has inspired me strongly to connect to this wonderful concept of Nataraja, the Lord of the Dance. When I approach this subject, I feel so many emotions - one that I have dared to actually paint this figure, and at the same time, of course, it belongs to me as an artist! I love working in oils, and have tried to create a spiritual presence in my painting.
