About The Artwork

Original Palette Knife Oil Painting on Canvas Title: Skipper's Celebration Size: 24x20x3/4'' Condition: Brand New Type: Original Oil Painting on Canvas This is a completed palette knife oil painting on traditional gallery-wrapped 3/4'' canvas. The sides of this canvas are completed with a dark gray tone. Depicted in this scene is Virginia Tech's cannon, Skipper, firing before the beginning of a night game in Lane Stadium. For those of us who have been lucky enough to experience this in person, nothing sends the crowd into a frenzy like the the cannon fire at the end of the Star Spangled Banner. It is a special place with awesome traditions. The most famous of those great traditions is Skipper the cannon and its use on game day in Blacksburg. This piece is already stretched and will be shipped to you in a container that will protect the entirety of the work.

Spencer Yancey was born and raised in Waynesboro, Virginia. Growing up in the Shenandoah Valley he quickly developed an appreciation for nature and depicting its beauty through art. At a young age he began taking lessons from local artist, from whom he learned many valuable artistic skills which he incorporates into his style and work to this day. Spencer made art his primary focus through grade school and into college, attending the Savannah College of Art and Design before finishing his degree at Eastern Mennonite University. Today, Spencer is an oil painter, focusing primarily on landscapes and leaning heavily on an impasto style with a palette knife as his only applicator. Knife painting has allowed him to find his unique style, in depicting various scenes that reflect Realism but contain texture and a loose play on details that hint an Impressionism influence.
