About The Artwork

Pencil, acrylic, hot press. East Asian philosophy about dragons has a much different meaning than in the west, In the west the dragon has wings to fly and in the east it flies without wings. in china the dragon represents wind in the sky but in Vietnam it is the river. but in general they represent the flow of life. There are stories where the river dragon learns to fly through pure will in order to eat the moon/magic medicine cake, this is also loosely related to the moon cake at Tet and the story of the man reaching the moon to get back his ascended wife. there is also another where the wife mistakenly desecrates the sacred tree and then sits upon it. She is then lifted up onto the moon and left there as punishment. This all then connects back to the dragon by way that the dragon is also representative of the man. And the woman the as the fire Phoenix who sits in the tree of life only to be scared off by the advancing dragon. The Phoenix fleeing is a symbol of a heavenly body traversing the sky (can't remember off hand if it was the moon or the sun). there is another story where the dragon Metamorphosis from a carp into a dragon.

I have loved and practiced art since I can remember. I am highly passionate about what qualifies as good or bad art in all aspects of life. My chosen form is the realm of two dimensions. 2D is the closest representation I can find to sight/thought. It is an illusion and so to is the mind. I believe that certain icons can carry a deeper meaning than others in a personal and general way. I also believe that some things just look good for no reason at all. I have always been a fine artist questioning what art is for me. I also trained as an illustrator which is about questioning what art is for others?. So this gives good insight into commissioned work.
