About The Artwork

In this painting, I want to communicate the way we hide our emotions behind a veil of secrecy. We do this in an attempt to protect ourselves from the outside word and to control other's perceptions of us. However, nobody can hide for ever and eventually the truth will out. I used oil paint as I love working by blending while painting is still wet, then add some details at the end, also used some gold leaf which give the painting some interesting light reflecting effect. Painting is on a deep edge canvas that I sandpaper and triple prime for a smooth finish, Abd finally been varnished to protect with satin varnish. It has a wire at the back for easy hanging on one or two hooks/ pins

Expressing emotions through my art is what I’m passionate about. I have always loved drawing and holding a pencil is one of my first happy memories. I started scribbling when I was very young and never stopped. I used to draw for fun, draw when I was sad, draw when I was bored. It was always the right thing to do. And today, creating a new piece of work gives me more satisfaction than anything else. When painting, I feel I must commit a piece of my soul to each image. To me, words are an insufficient way to express feelings, so I try to enable my hands to reach inside myself to pull emotions from deep within. I then inject these into my canvas in the hope that I can communicate authentically with others in a way that allows them to experience the same feelings. In my commissioned portraiture, I strive to reveal the personality of the sitter in a way that positively reflects their own ego and self-image and that will be familiar to people who know them well. Where appropriate, I sometimes add objects or mementos from their life, in order to convey aspects of their psyche that may otherwise go unnoticed.
