About The Artwork

Here, in this drawing where I was inspired by opposites, The Path Between Flames and Ashes, made in ink and acrylic on paper, black and gray represent ashes and red represents flames and fire. I try here in an abstract way to represent the flames as a symbol of regeneration, rebirth, renewal, purification and the ashes as a symbol of destruction, devastation and extermination. It is a contrast between two elements, which end up complementing each other, that is, reborn from the ashes.

I was born in Lisbon in 1981, where I corrently live and work. From an early age, I was always interested in everything that was geometric, a simple square alone in the middle of nowhere, fascinated me. The geometric figures raised in me a path of ideas to follow, as well as everything that was unexplainable and surreal. The Abstraction created in me a mixed of sensations, of chimerical ideas disconnected from reality. Just like darker colour tones such as black, gray, wine colour, dry green, or various shades of blue, are colours that give me confidence, personality and creativity. So I got into University and studied Communication Design, I learned a lot in University, I loved the Art History class, learned a lot about each of the artistic movements, the Drawing class made me sure of my personality as a visual artist. At the end of the University, I was sure that I didn't want to follow communication design because was an area too much connected to computers and graphic editors but I wanted to follow something more artistic and personal. I went through other professional areas, without ever losing my artistic side. I worked a store manager. Later, I started to painting again, creating my art for myself, then for family and friends. Since then, I haven't stopped. In my paintings, I use a lot black colour, Chinese ink, dark colours, several materials in the finishes and a pen for big and small details. My art is a mix of emotions, which I try to represent through Geometric Abstraction, where I make geometric compositions and Informal or Lyrical Abstraction. I express my feelings and ideas in a natural way with complete autonomy, using shapes, lines and colours. My instinct, my unconscious and my inner need, leads to my way of working, which allows different interpretations, with total freedom over the meaning of my art that I love.
