The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (in the usage of the "Great Church") is the main cathedral church of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the "God-Created" prototype of all the monastery temples of Ancient Rus, the tomb of Kiev princes. During the World War II, the cathedral was destroyed by an explosion on November 3, 1941. At the same time, the traces of the ancient icon of the Caves of Our Lady of Pechersk, which gave the name to the entire Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, disappeared. According to this version, the destruction of the Assumption Cathedral was carried out in order to hide the traces of its robbery.
